• Wood bats promote acute hitting vision – The barrel is smaller so a hitter has to see the ball better and follow it to the point of contact to achieve hitting success. • Wood bats teach good swing mechanics – The smaller barrel will train players to hit with good mechanics - starting the hands early, selecting good pitches to hit, and accelerating with a flat, level swing. • Wood bats promote solid contact, “sweet spot,” hitting - Wood will let a player know whether he’s hit the sweet spot; a good hit with wood a player won't even feel. A bad hit will sting the hands or break the bat. • Wood bats instill greater strike zone discipline – Pitches out of the strike zone tend to be more difficult to hit on the sweet spot. Better sweet spot hitters learn the strike zone better. • Wood bats increase bat speed – Wood bats are slightly heavier than most metal bats of the same length. Practicing with wood and swinging metal at game time makes the metal feel lighter and creates better bat speed.
